CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Seven (7) former extremists from the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, Dawlah Islamiya and Communist Terrorist Group collectively decided to turn their backs to the armed struggle and voluntarily surrendered to government troops of 40th Infantry Battalion on December 26, 2021 at the 40IB Hqs, Barangay Tual, President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat.
Lieutenant Colonel Edwin Alburo, Commanding Officer of 40IB disclosed that four (4) of the surrenderers are from BIFF under the Karialan Faction, one (1) from Dawlah Islamiya and two (2) from CTG Guerilla Front 73, Far South Mindanao Region.
Colonel Oriel Pangcog, Commander of 601st Brigade added, “The surrender of these 7 combatants is a joint effort of the military, the police and the Local Chief Executives of Sultan Sa Barongis, Datu Paglas and Paglat, all of Maguindanao Province”.
The former extremists along with their high-powered firearms, ammunitions and war materials were presented to Hon. Abubakar Paglas, Mayor of Datu Paglas and Hon. Mamatanto Mamantal, Mayor of Sultan Sa Barongis on December 27, 2021 at the 601Bde Hqs, Camp Leono, Barangay Kalandagan, Tacurong City. Also present during the event was Mr. Roger Dionisio, Focal Person of Agila Haven Program of Maguindanao Province.
The surrendered HPAs are the following: one (1) M16 Rifle, one (1) M79 Grenade Launcher, one (1) cartridge 40mm HE, one (1) Cal.20, one (1) Ingram Sub-machine Gun, three (3) Improvised Hand Grenade, two (2) Detonating Assembly, two (2) RPG, and one (1) homemade Barret Sniper Rifle.
Major General Juvymax Uy, Commander of Joint Task Force Central and 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division emphasized the importance of the LGU’s cooperation in addressing and compelling the remaining members of local terror groups to surrender. “With the cooperation of everybody, we can easily identify and respond quickly to the needs of our people. The JTFC warmly welcomes you, and with the financial assistance from the government, you will be able to start a new and peaceful lives with your families”, Maj Gen Uy added.
