UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque urged local governments to provide incentives to encourage people who are reluctant to get vaccinated against COVID19.
“Tingin ko po kapag ginamit natin ang batas at ginawa nating mandatory ang pagbabakuna ay kinakailangan sumunod ang lahat pero kung ‘yan po ay masyadong malakas ang dating dahil mandatory agad ‘yan, magbibigay po tayo dapat ng mga incentives,” he said.
Roque, a human rights lawyer, lauded some Local Government Units (LGUs) for providing incentives to their constituents who received the jabs.
Late last year, the Inter-Agency Task Force for Managing Infectious Diseases (IATF), in issuing Resolution No. 148-B, strongly enjoined LGUs to give orders or ordinances to ramp up demand for vaccination by, among others, providing incentives for fully vaccinated individuals.
Some LGUs have resorted to providing raffle prizes and giveaways to encourage people to register and fall in line for the vaccine.
“Explore muna natin iyung mga ganun bago natin gamitin ang kamay na bakal,” he said.
“Pero ang sinasabi ko lang make no mistake about it, kung kinakailangan na gamitin ang kamay na bakal ng estado, naniniwala po ako na kabahagi noon ang tinatawag na police power ay ‘yung para mag-prescribe ng mandatory vaccination,” Roque added.

Galvez Jr. said the country had vaccinated nearly 63 million Filipinos.
Galvez said 10 regions had vaccinated more than 70 percent of their people, five of them posting a vaccination coverage that even exceeded 80 percent.
Roque said he would file a proposed-National Vaccination Law in the Senate if elected in May.
“Bilang isang mambabatas kung makakarating ng Senado pag-aaralan po natin ang isang National Vaccination Law kung kinakailangan talagang isabatas pa ‘yan,” the former congressman said.
Roque said he hoped that the vaccination rate would reach 100 percent soon.
“Hindi natin dapat itigil ang proseso ng pagbibigay po ng insentibo, pagbibigay ng edukasyon sa ating mamamayan para sana po 100 percent ang ating vaccination rate,” he also said.
