UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque will continue to bring his rights-based platform on health, justice, and social services closer to Filipino voters through public speaking and dancing.
The former party-list congressman said his campaign style, which incorporates dancing in his speeches, has helped impart his proposed Senate legislative agenda to the people in political rallies across the nation.
If elected, Roque promised to sponsor laws on better health care implementation, livelihood creation for pandemic and disaster-affected Filipinos, justice system reforms, and ending hunger in the country.
The former presidential spokesman stressed that his oratory and dancing in UniTeam sorties boosted the communication lines between him and the people, particularly those in the provinces.
“It is part of improving the communication between the electorate and myself. Some netizens may not like my speech-and-dance campaigning, but the audience in all UniTeam campaign rallies clamors for it,” he said.
Roque, a health and human rights advocate, said his dance number does not take away from his proven track record as a lawyer, legal scholar, and lawmaker.
Roque explained that as President Duterte’s previous spokesman, some people might have viewed him as a ferocious person.
He said dancing has slowly erased this misimpression and improved his likeability factor.
“After dancing, the people listen to what I have to say and can do about the pandemic response, job creation, food security, lowering power rates, and protecting the people’s rights,” Roque said.
“Being a senator means writing laws and drafting policies. Many times I have used the law for justice and genuine social change. I believe that this is enough reason for the people to elect me into the Senate,” he added.
Roque authored the laws on Universal Health Care, free irrigation to farmers, national HIV and AIDS policy, free lunch to elementary pupils, and free tuition in state colleges and universities.
Roque was an associate professor of law at the University of the Philippines, visiting scholar at the National University of Singapore, and an adjunct professor at the American University Washington College of Law.
As a lawyer, he has secured criminal convictions for the murderers of 19 journalists involved in the Ampatuan Maguindanao Massacre case and killer of LGBT member Jennifer Laude, respectively.
